Caring for Your New Lawn
New Lawns, Sod, or Seed
Weeks One to Three -- For the first two to three weeks, water 2 to 3 times per day, allowing the water to soak in, especially during hot weather. Apply 1 inch of water, so the soil beneath the sod is moist.
Make sure that water is getting to all areas of your new lawn. Corners and edges are easily missed and tend to dry out faster than the center areas. Areas near buildings or retaining walls also tend to dry out faster because of reflected heat.
Allow new sod areas to grow four to five inches before mowing. Do not mow shorter than 3 inches.
